Someone asked me yesterday to do a post products showing what safer products we have started using in our lives. Instead of really overwhelming everyone I thought I would break this up into weekly segments! Every Wednesday check in for my new tips!
This week I will start with household products. This is where we orginally started our switches to a cleaner life and it was easy and it wasn’t expensive. When you run out of a product swap in a safer one instead, before you know it you will have an arsenal of safe products! Household products contain some pretty terrifying chemicals! Another bonus? You will SAVE MONEY by switching to these products. Yes SAVE MONEY! We use Grove.co for most of our purchases and I strongly encourage you to utilize it! They save you money and your cleaning products come to your door! If you sign up here you even get a FREE Seventh Generation hand soap and $10 credit! We also love Norwex, our products from them have been life changing.
I love dawn..a lot. Just the good old original blue dawn. This is by far my hardest switch. We have been using Young Living Thieves Dish Soap but someone just recommended Seventh Generation so we will be trying that!
Thieves all day everyday. This is coming from a reformed bleach addict. I didn’t think it was possible for something to be clean without that strong smell of clorox in the air. Turns out I was wrong! We use thieves as our only cleaner. Windows, floors, toilets, tubs…everything! A lot of people will use vinegar and water but it’s actually not effective and can damage floors and granite. If I damage my granite my husband will make me live in the garage, so it’s just not an option.
I tried about 10 different ones before I found one I loved and that was Seventh Generation. I also love the calcicum ball from Norwex. We have hard water so we added this magnet ball in and have been amazed by the difference it makes in our dishes!
Deep tough cleaning:
Like I said I use Thieves for all of my cleaning but sometimes you get something ( like your oven) that needs something tough to clean it. Enter Norwex cleaning paste. I swear this is the most amazing product I have ever used.
Toss those papertowels!
For real! One they leave link everywhere making what you just cleaned not even look clean. Two they cost money and I hate spending money on things that aren’t fun. And third the enviroment will thank you for giving them the boot! We only use these microfibor clothes. They are infused with silver so you only need water ( I still use my thieves with them) and they work AMAZING! Plus they never stink like normal dish clothes.
Hardwood and Tile Floors:
I use my thieves cleaner once a week on my floors just because my husband has a habit of tracking in with gross shoes. The rest of the days I use this mop and am in love. It comes with a dry cloth and a wet cloth and picks all of the hair and dust! I love this thing a little too much!
Laundry Soap + Fabric Softener:
This is another hard one for me, because of our yucky water. I have been making my own and you can find it here. I also have tried some natural ones without a ton of sucess. My friends who have normal water really like Molly’s Suds. I just bought Norwex’s laundry soap so I’ll keep you posted on how I like it! As for fabric softener this was another sad one of me, because I LOVED it! Sadly there isn’t really a safe version I have found that works but I have added in dryer balls with essential oils on them and have been very pleased!
Just hide them. Don’t throw them out because you mught need them one day incase of an emergecy but stop burning them for their scent. There are no safe alterntives that I have found other than diffusing oils. Plus at least when you are diffusing oils to smell nice you are reaping their benefits too.
Again there is no safe alternative unless you make it yourself. I’ve made a room spray using oils and it helps! We have animals and kids who all smell bad so I needed something.
I use this microfiber mit for all of my dusting! Trust me I know about dusting guys, we heat with wood so my house is a dust bowl. This is all you need! You can use it dry or wet, either way you will be pleased! Plus no nasty harsh chemicals, score!
