My sister (in law) is one of those people who you meet and just instantly love, the same goes for her husband. They just radiate joy and real pure beauty. That never faded, even in their darkest days. For 4 ½ years they tried and tried to have a baby, finally with God’s help and IVF they got their baby. Our family still hasn’t come down from that high, because there is not a single person on earth I can think of who deserves to be parents more than them.
Below is her big announcement. I think it shows a glimpse of her strength and beauty.
“4 and 1/2 years… At first, it was exciting… an adventure of sorts. Then the years went by and I learned pretty quickly that this miracle was out of my control. Unanswered prayers… days where I forced that McGee grin… Behind it, my sad eyes were still. Some may consider it phony… how I choose ‘happy’ even though I’m sad… For me, it’s my strength in times of pain. I would succumb to the emotion when I was alone… crying to myself so nobody had to watch the ridiculous tears in real time. My sweet RB would come home and hug me… And we’d stay in the embrace, quiet in our understanding. I kept smiling… a hopeful heart scared of yet another disappointment. IVF was our best chance at becoming parents… There was Mom, God bless her, with her steadfast support and encouragement… She’s my angel. There was an army of amazing family and friends. The prayers rolled in. 3 rounds of Clomid… A round of IUI… a round of IVF egg retrieval… A cancelled Fresh Embryo Transfer due to overstimulated ovaries… A Failed Frozen Embryo Transfer… Blood draws, needles (oh the needles), hormones galore… and here we are. Our 2nd Frozen Embryo transfer was successful!!! I know it’s not all rainbows and butterflies from here… I know pain is part of the beauty of joy… but dammit, we are dancing and praising God… for there’s a baby in my belly! Thank you God for our miracle. Thank you all for your prayers. Baby Hursh loves you in a really big way. ETA: April 13, 2016.”
My sister is as carefree as the wind, so when I started planning her shower I knew it needed to reflect her sweet soul. I found the most perfect place to have it, a big beautiful old Inn… the Inn itself was so amazing it didn’t need décor, but of course I had to come up with a few ideas.
If you know me you know I go to one person and one person only for invites. Danielle Shay is amazing to work with and came up with a gorgeous design, that kicked off the rest of the décor!
I did this custom floral A (you can find the tutorial here). This was not intended to be the focal point of the party, but it was!
I originally built centerpiece boxes but they ended up setting up smaller tables so they were too big. Instead we improvised and used our succulent favors as the centerpiece and it looked great!
While waiting to undergo her second frozen transfer, Megan started making dream catchers to ease her mind and keep her busy. So it only seemed appropriate to include them into her shower. I made these little dream catches as favors and they were super easy and not to mention adorable!
I am a huge lover of naked cakes! This came from a local baker and was so yummy. A lot of people didn’t get a naked cake, and it took a lot of convincing but I assured them that that is what is in style!
Megan’s best pal hooked us up with drinks! She made a nonalcoholic Shirley Temple as well as a champagne one. Man was it good!!
Sitting in that room, you couldn’t not feel God’s presence, He was everywhere. There weren’t many dry eyes, but there was so much love. To my dear sweet Annie, the world will be a better place with you in it.
